Harbor Bridge Project Moves Forward Once Again in Production
Beginning Construction Projects Once Again
It’s impossible to live in the Corpus Christi area without being aware of the Harbor Bridge Project that is being constructed.
Despite a few delays, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the project’s new manager, and the engineering firm overseeing the construction, Coastal Bend residents can rejoice in a new completion date for 2024.
Details About The Harbor Bridge Itself
The new Harbor Bridge will span a total of 6.44 miles of bridge and roadway and employ a concrete cable-stay design. Once complete, the bridge will be the longest, cable-stay, concrete-segmental bridge in the United States and also the tallest structure in South Texas with a life expectancy of 170 years. Additional features will include higher clearance for ships and reconstructed safety measure including two 10-foot wide shoulders on the north and southbound lanes of the bridge.
What's Next for Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend?
The project continues to employ Corpus Christi residents with jobs in the various stages of its production and completion. The process will include design, development, construction, and maintenance of the new Harbor Bridge and the eventual demolition of the old Harbor Bridge which is expected to span over the course of another year.
As construction progresses, the Harbor Bridge project is estimated to provide approximately 300-450 members of the coastal bend community with employment opportunities.
